Jordanian Foreign Minister: Necessity of concerted efforts to compel the Israeli occupation to halt all violations
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi stressed the necessity of rallying regional and international efforts to compel the Israeli occupation to halt all its violations of international law and international humanitarian law.
The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press statement on Monday that this came during Safadi’s meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres during his official visit to the Jordanian capital, Amman, aimed at strengthening cooperation between Jordan and the UN and its agencies.
Safadi warned that the occupation’s illegal and provocative measures, which include settler terrorism, settlement expansion, confiscation of Palestinian land, and altering the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites, are pushing the West Bank toward explosion and constitute a blatant violation of international law and resolutions of the UN Security Council.
He emphasized the need to implement all provisions of US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza and to lift Israeli occupation restrictions that prevent the entry of adequate humanitarian aid into the Strip, which continues to face a humanitarian catastrophe.
He praised the humanitarian role played by UN agencies and their key role in delivering aid to Gaza and in efforts to meet the needs of refugees.
Safadi stressed the necessity of rallying efforts to halt the Israeli occupation’s illegal measures that entrench the occupation, drive further tension and violence, and undermine all chances of achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
According to the statement, the two sides discussed regional developments and the repercussions of the serious escalation witnessed in the region, as well as efforts to restore calm and ensure lasting security and stability.
They affirmed the importance of adhering to the ceasefire between the United States and Iran and resuming negotiations to reach a comprehensive solution that addresses all causes of tension and guarantees freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law.
Safadi and Guterres stressed the importance of rallying regional and international efforts to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and provide it with the necessary support to enable it to continue providing its vital services to Palestinian refugees in line with its UN mandate.
They discussed developments in Syria and affirmed the importance of supporting Syria’s unity, security, stability, and sovereignty, as well as the reconstruction process launched by the Syrian government to build a future that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people.
Safadi and Guterres stressed the need to halt Israeli occupation interventions and attacks on Syria.
