Sisi directs the presentation of the achievements of "Archiving and Digitizing the Heritage of Egyptian Radio and Television" to the public
President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi directed that the achievements of the archiving and digitization project for the radio and television heritage of Egyptian Radio and Television be presented to the public, clarifying the extent of the efforts made to document and preserve Egypt’s heritage within the Egyptian Television Library.
This came during a meeting held by President el-Sisi in Alamein City yesterday with Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister; Eng. Raafat Hendy, Minister of Communications and Information Technology; Diaa Rashwan, Minister of State for Media; Lt. Gen. Mohsen Abdel Nabi, Presidential Advisor for Media; Khaled Abdel Aziz, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation; Ahmed Al-Muslemani, Chairman of the National Media Authority; Lt. Gen. (Res.) Hany Mansour, Director of the Signals Department of the Armed Forces; and Lt. Gen. Walid Atiyya, Director of the Information Systems Department of the Armed Forces.
The official spokesperson for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, stated that the meeting reviewed the implementation status of the archiving and digitization project for the heritage of Egyptian Radio and Television. This initiative is among the strategic projects aimed at protecting the state’s most important cultural and media assets and making them available in a modern format that keeps pace with technological developments and serves cultural, educational, and media purposes. This is achieved by converting the heritage, media, and artistic content of the radio and television stations under the National Media Authority into digital media, in cooperation and coordination with relevant state entities and major global companies operating in this field.
For his part, the Chairman of the National Media Authority noted that the archive of Egyptian Radio and Television is the largest and most important media archive in the Arab region. It contains audio and visual recordings, programs, and documents that document the history of the state and Egyptian society over many decades. He explained that implementing this project constitutes a long-term investment in protecting national heritage and making it available to future generations in a modern and secure manner.
Spokesperson Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy pointed out that the meeting discussed the steps taken to implement the archiving and digitization project for the heritage of Egyptian Radio and Television. These steps include creating organized and indexed digital databases to inventory and document approximately one million audio and video tapes, totaling around 800,000 hours of content. The project utilizes the latest specialized technologies to convert audio and visual materials from traditional media into high-quality digital formats, organizing them within an integrated electronic system that allows for easy storage and retrieval. Additionally, all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the highest levels of security and content preservation, with the use of some artificial intelligence applications within this system.
The meeting also addressed efforts to develop the Maspero studios, contributing to enhancing media production efficiency and upgrading the technological infrastructure within the Maspero building in terms of devices and equipment. Furthermore, it covered efforts to disseminate content through viewing platforms.
The spokesperson added that the President followed up during the meeting on several projects and initiatives aimed at strengthening the digital presence of national media content, including the “Maspero Platform.” He also received updates on the preservation of the heritage of reciters and chanters, and the protection of numerous programs that have been broadcast on Quran Radio since its establishment in 1964. These efforts are part of a strategy to maximize the role of digital media under the slogan “Digital First.”
He continued, “The President directed that the achievements of the archiving and digitization project for the radio and television heritage of Egyptian Radio and Television be presented to the public, clarifying the magnitude of the efforts made to document and preserve Egypt’s great heritage within the Egyptian Television Library.”
In this regard, the President emphasized the importance of the Maspero modernization project combining infrastructure upgrades, expansion of media content, and heritage digitization. He directed the necessity of coordination among relevant state entities and the exchange of views regarding mechanisms for developing Egyptian media, including its governmental and private institutions. He stressed the importance of continuing to keep pace with the rapid developments in the media sector and utilizing specialists and qualified personnel, ensuring that the media message reaches citizens in a professional and effective manner.
