Astonishing: Al-Sahel claims top spot in the 'First' league with a spirit of defiance

Hadi Al-Anzi: Al-Sahel’s football director, Khaled Ajab, told “Al-Anba” that his team’s 1-0 victory over Al-Yarmouk in the top match of the 14th round of the Zain League First Division was the result of several combined factors, foremost among them the high spirit with which the team played throughout both halves of the match, and their determination to secure the three crucial points due to their significant importance.

Al-Sahel’s win over Al-Yarmouk allowed “Abu Halifa’s sons” to take sole possession of the top spot in the First Division with 32 points, after breaking their partnership with Al-Yarmouk, who remain in second place with 29 points. They face an important match tomorrow against Khaitan, who sit fifth in the standings with 17 points.

Ajab noted that the victory would serve as motivation for the administrative and technical staff, as well as the players, to continue their journey in the upcoming decisive rounds. He added, “With the cooperation of the technical staff led by national coach Ali Abdul-Razzaq and the players, we overcame several obstacles, including the late arrival of foreign players and the lack of sufficient time to hold an external training camp. However, we surmounted these challenges through a spirit of determination and a desire to win.”

On another note, Al-Salmiya Club announced the technical and administrative staff for all youth age groups across its football teams, with former international Jasem Al-Huwaidi appointed as sports director for the youth, juveniles, and children’s sectors, as well as the Al-Salmiya Football Academy.

National coach Adel Saadoun will coach the youth team (under-19), while Omar Barakat has been entrusted with coaching the juveniles team (under-17). Barak Al-Sawagh will coach the children’s team (under-15).
