Modern Pentathlon Competes in the World Championship

Kuwait’s modern pentathlon national team will participate today, Tuesday, in the World Modern Pentathlon Championships for the cadet and under-17 categories in Kaunas, Lithuania. The event, which kicked off on July 24 and runs through July 30, includes fencing, the obstacle race, swimming, and the laser run (a combined running and laser shooting discipline).

The team is represented by players Namar Abaazraq, Mohammed Al-Sahabi, Sharaf Al-Ajmi, Badr Al-Sahabi, Omar Al-Shammari, Hubari Al-Thuwaini, Rutaj Abdulhussein, and Farah Al-Rashidi.

Nasser Al-Waleed, chairman of the Modern Pentathlon Club and Federation, stated in a press statement that this participation marks the most significant milestone in the national team’s history, as the athletes will compete in most of the championship’s events. He noted that this is the largest Kuwaiti and Gulf delegation to take part in global modern pentathlon competitions.

He added that the tournament reflects the progress achieved by the national team through its involvement in the majority of the events, which constitute one of the key global stages for identifying promising talent. The competition offers athletes the opportunity to compete against the world’s best young pentathletes and gain international experience, with approximately 36 countries and 236 athletes participating.

Al-Waleed clarified that Mohammed Al-Sahabi, Hubari Al-Thuwaini, and Rutaj Abdulhussein are preparing to represent Kuwait in modern pentathlon at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, scheduled for September next year.
