Memorandum of Understanding between Kuwait and Qatar in the field of competition protection
An emiri decree was issued approving a memorandum of understanding on competition protection between the Government of Kuwait and the Government of the State of Qatar. The objective of the memorandum is to enhance competition and combat anti-competitive practices and other practices that restrict legitimate competition, in order to achieve fruitful cooperation between the two parties. The two parties will cooperate within their respective competencies, with the areas of cooperation focusing on the following: 1. Mutual support to improve the implementation and enforcement of competition legislation. 2. Exchange of information and expertise in the field of competition to facilitate and enhance the performance of the parties’ tasks. 3. Exchange of expertise regarding investigation and inquiry procedures concerning violations of competition laws and regulations. 4. Exchange of experiences on the mechanism for examining complaints and requests related to the completion of economic concentration operations. 5. Exchange of experiences on mechanisms and methodologies for conducting competition studies. 6. Exchange of views in the context of preparing for participation in international activities. 7. Exchange of periodic and awareness-raising publications in the field of competition. The decree, which was published in the “Kuwait Today” newspaper in its issue dated July 26, 2026, stated that the memorandum has a duration of four years and is automatically extended for one or more similar periods.
