My phone rang, and the caller turned out to be a Kuwaiti. At that moment, I immediately thought to myself, “Why is this Kuwaiti calling this driver? There must be a major accident if someone has taken the driver’s phone and is calling from it.”
The caller said, “My brother, someone hit your driver’s car and fled. I have photographed the accident and the license plate of the other person.”
I asked him, “Are you willing to testify at the police station?” He replied, “Of course, I’m ready.”
I told him to give the driver his phone number, send him the video of the accident, and thanked him profusely, praising his noble stance.
The next day, I went with the driver to the police station in the area where the accident occurred. The station officer received me, and I informed him of everything that had happened. After completing all the paperwork, he asked us to proceed to the investigator to finalize the inquiry and “file a case.”
At that point, I froze. I asked the officer, “Son, what do you mean by ‘case’?” He replied, “Uncle, this is a hit-and-run offense, a crime punishable by law with imprisonment and a fine. The first thing I will do now is issue an arrest warrant for the other driver on charges of fleeing the scene of an accident. From what the driver told me, he believes the other driver is a woman.”
The moment I heard the words “arrest warrant,” and the driver mentioned that the other party was a woman, I stood up immediately from my chair without saying a word to the officer, who followed me asking, “Uncle, where are you going? Haven’t we finished the paperwork?” I told him, “Son, I’ve completed the paperwork, but I don’t want anything. I withdraw my complaint and consider the matter as if it never happened. An arrest warrant?!”
I had expected them to be summoned and for me to provide insurance documents to repair my car. But since the lawsuit involves an arrest warrant, by God, even if my car were completely smashed and totaled, I would not accept anything that harms her. The reward is with God. O God, cover us and Your servants in this world and the Hereafter.
Life and the many years I have spent on this earth have taught me that whoever covers for a Muslim, God will cover him for the rest of his life.
One final point: I notice that my children, as well as many relatives and friends, remark on how often I pray for them, saying, “May God cover you.” But I insist on it, because covering is a great blessing, and the fortunate and blessed are those whom God covers in this world and the Hereafter.
One wise man said, “I am not righteous, but God is my Coverer.”
