Egypt expressed its sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Syrian government and people for the victims of the tragic road accident that occurred on the Deir ez-Zor-Damascus highway, claiming dozens of lives. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed in a statement on Saturday its full solidarity with Syria in this dire tragedy. It offered its deepest condolences and sincere sympathies to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured. At least 35 people were killed and 30 others injured in a severe collision between two buses near Palmyra on the highway from the Syrian capital, Damascus, heading toward the city of Deir ez-Zor. The Syrian News Agency (SANA) reported that the Ministry of Defense dispatched several vehicles to participate in medical evacuation operations and to transport the victims to the Homs Military Hospital.
