Egyptian Foreign Minister Holds Talks with His Qatari, Omani, and Iranian Counterparts to Prevent Escalation of the Conflict
Doha – Khadija Hamouda and agencies: Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, received Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in Doha. According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), the meeting reviewed cooperation relations between the two countries and ways to support and enhance them, and discussed the latest regional developments, particularly diplomatic efforts and joint coordination to de-escalate tensions and promote security and stability in the region.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman emphasized the necessity for all parties to commit to dialogue and diplomacy, and to implement the agreements reached under the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, including ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, to safeguard regional security, preserve achieved gains, and strengthen regional stability. He reaffirmed Qatar’s full support for all efforts aimed at defusing tensions and reaching a comprehensive agreement that achieves sustainable peace in the region.
Foreign Minister discusses phone calls with Iranian and Omani counterparts on de-escalation and freedom of navigation
In this context, Foreign Minister Abdelatty held telephone conversations with his Omani counterpart, Badr Al Busaidi, and his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, as part of continuous consultations on regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore security and stability in the region.
According to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the calls addressed efforts to advance the de-escalation process. Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of an immediate halt to all military and escalatory actions, and prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions, which would help contain escalating tensions, prevent the conflict from widening, and enhance regional security and stability, sparing the peoples of the region from further escalation and its repercussions.
The Foreign Minister also stressed the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, as a fundamental pillar of regional security and stability, and for protecting international trade and global supply chains. He emphasized the necessity of avoiding any measures that could threaten the security of these maritime routes or expose them to risks, thereby safeguarding the interests of all countries in the region and the global economy.
