As part of its commitment to promoting a culture of sustainability and enhancing community awareness among younger generations, Boubyan Bank participated in the “Conscious Consumer” program, organized by the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Talent and Creativity, through an educational lecture targeting high school students. The session highlighted the bank’s efforts to reduce food waste and shared its experience in this field through its strategic partnership with the “Nemti” initiative for preserving blessings.
The lecture was delivered by Abdullah Al-Muhanna, First Sharia Auditor in the Sharia Audit Sector at Boubyan Bank, alongside Mohammed Al-Muzaini, Head of the “Nemti” initiative. They shed light on the partnership between the two parties and their role in promoting a culture of responsible consumption and reducing food waste. The lecture also addressed the importance of instilling concepts of responsible consumption among youth and the role of daily behaviors in conserving resources and minimizing waste. Students were given the opportunity to participate in assembling food baskets, a practical experience that deepened their understanding of the importance of volunteer work, preserving blessings, and the role of community initiatives in creating a sustainable impact.
Commenting on this, Dr. Mohammed Al-Barrak, Executive Director of the Sharia Audit Sector at Boubyan Bank, stated that participation in the “Conscious Consumer” program reflects Boubyan’s belief in the importance of investing in the awareness of new generations. He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Talent and Creativity for this purposeful initiative, which provided an opportunity to contribute to spreading concepts of sustainability and responsible consumption among high school students by showcasing practical experiences that help consolidate these values and enhance their impact on society.
He added that building a culture of sustainability begins with disseminating knowledge and promoting positive behaviors at an early age, emphasizing that introducing young people to issues such as reducing food waste and conserving resources helps prepare a generation more aware of its responsibilities toward society and the environment, and better equipped to translate these concepts into daily practices.
He clarified that the strategic partnership between Boubyan Bank and the “Nemti” initiative for preserving blessings represents one of the most prominent models of national cooperation in the field of reducing food waste and promoting a culture of responsible consumption. He noted that since its launch three years ago, the initiative has helped preserve over two million meals and deliver them to those entitled to them, with the estimated value of surplus food utilized reaching approximately 8 million Kuwaiti dinars, reflecting the significant social impact achieved by this partnership.
Al-Barrak affirmed that these results highlight the importance of strategic partnerships between private sector institutions and national initiatives in providing practical solutions to community issues and transforming sustainability concepts into tangible, measurable initiatives.
He pointed out that involving students in assembling food baskets embodied the importance of moving from theoretical awareness to practical application, as concepts of corporate social responsibility and sustainability become more firmly rooted when young people themselves participate in volunteer initiatives that address community needs and promote a culture of giving and resource conservation.
He added that reaching high school students with these messages represents a genuine investment in the future, because building a more sustainable society does not rely on initiatives alone, but on preparing generations that believe sustainability is a way of life, and that preserving blessings, rationalizing consumption, and volunteer work are daily practices that contribute to building a more aware and sustainable society.
