Pakistan's Foreign Minister: Importance of Continuing Diplomatic Efforts to Restore Peace and Stability in the Region

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, expressed deep concern on Friday over tensions in the region, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, self-restraint, de-escalation by all parties, and continued diplomatic efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry said in a statement that this came during a meeting between Ishaq Dar and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation foreign ministers’ meeting in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan.

The statement added that Dar stressed the need to build on the understandings reached under the Islamabad Declaration of Understanding signed between the United States and Iran last June.

It noted that the Iranian foreign minister, for his part, expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s sustained diplomatic support and its constructive efforts to enhance regional peace and security.

The statement said both sides agreed to continue close coordination and regular consultations on issues of mutual interest, reaffirmed the strength of relations between Pakistan and Iran, and reviewed developments in the regional situation.
