Pakistani Foreign Minister Emphasizes the Need to De-escalate and Build on the "Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding" Between the US and Iran

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, expressed deep concern over recent regional tensions, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, restraint, de-escalation by all parties, and continued diplomatic engagement to achieve lasting peace and stability. He also stressed the need to build on the understandings reached under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed in June 2026 between the United States and Iran.

This came during a meeting between Ishaq Dar and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation foreign ministers’ meeting in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry stated that the two ministers reaffirmed the close and historic ties between Pakistan and Iran, and reviewed developments in the regional situation. Both sides agreed to continue close coordination and regular consultations on issues of mutual interest, and reiterated their commitment to working together for regional peace and stability and shared prosperity, according to a statement from the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.
