European approval paves the way for use of innovative chip that may help blind patients regain partial vision

In a landmark move in the field of medical technology, Science Corporation has received approval from European regulatory authorities to market the “Prima” device, designed to assist patients who have lost their vision due to age-related macular degeneration.

According to the specialized website TechCrunch, the device has also received a special designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which could expedite the review process in preparation for its use in treating certain cases of vision loss.

The system relies on an electronic chip implanted behind the eye during a surgical procedure lasting approximately one hour. It works in tandem with smart glasses equipped with a camera that transmits images to the chip, stimulating the retina and providing functional vision that helps patients perform daily activities such as reading and recognizing certain details.

The company noted that clinical trial results showed significant improvement in several patients. The company is led by Max Hodak, a former co-founder of Neuralink, who affirmed that the commercial success of the device would help fund future research in brain-computer interfaces.

The company is preparing to launch the device in Germany, with plans to develop a more advanced version in the near future.
