IMO Secretary-General Condemns Attacks on Navigation in the Red Sea

London, KUNA – Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the London-based International Maritime Organization (IMO), has condemned the unjustified attacks on international navigation in the Red Sea. In a statement issued by the organization on Thursday, Dominguez said, “I unequivocally condemn the recent attacks on international navigation in the Red Sea region.” He added, “These attacks are unjustified, as they endanger the lives of seafarers and threaten international maritime security, the marine environment, and the stability of global supply chains.” He renewed his call for the “immediate and unconditional release of all seafarers still held following piracy attacks in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.” He emphasized that “the Red Sea is a vital waterway for international trade, and the continuation of attacks on navigation in this area threatens to escalate tensions, further disrupt trade routes, and undermine the principle of freedom of navigation.”
