Video: Kuwait Fire Department warns that charging smart devices incorrectly and leaving them plugged in for hours can cause fires

The General Fire Force has urged the public to adhere to safety guidelines when using smart electronic devices and lithium-ion battery-powered gaming equipment, emphasizing that following preventive instructions helps mitigate the risks of fires and accidents caused by misuse or unsafe charging.

In an awareness video published on its official platforms, the Force highlighted that one of the key safety measures is using high-quality, standards-compliant chargers, and avoiding poor-quality or unapproved chargers that may cause devices to overheat or result in electrical short circuits.

It stressed the importance of not leaving devices connected to chargers for extended periods, especially during sleep, due to the potential risks if the battery overheats or suffers a sudden malfunction. It also warned against leaving electronic devices or lithium-ion batteries in exposed areas or inside vehicles exposed to sunlight and high temperatures, as this directly affects battery safety and increases the likelihood of damage or ignition.

The Force underscored the necessity of not storing lithium-ion batteries near flammable materials or in enclosed, non-air-conditioned spaces, noting that proper storage is one of the most important factors in preventing accidents associated with this type of battery.
