Dr. Anna Goufta warned that yellow watermelon, despite its sweet taste, may not be suitable for everyone, emphasizing that its consumption can cause health complications in certain groups. She clarified that the category most at risk of complications includes individuals suffering from acute gastrointestinal diseases. She stated, “In cases of acute pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, exacerbation of stomach ulcers, and inflammatory bowel diseases, it is advisable to completely avoid eating yellow watermelon, as it contains high levels of water, sugars, and dietary fiber, which can increase intestinal irritation. Patients with diabetes and chronic kidney disease should also exercise caution, especially if they are following a diet that restricts potassium-rich foods.” She added that the safe amount of yellow watermelon, even for healthy individuals, should not exceed 200 to 300 grams. Furthermore, she recommended consuming yellow watermelon as a snack between main meals and during the first half of the day, as eating large quantities, particularly in the evening, may cause a feeling of heaviness and discomfort.
