Unprovoked aggression at the Abdali crossing without recorded human casualties

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the State of Kuwait’s condemnation and strongest rejection of the continued, despicable aggression launched by Iran and its proxies against the country, which today targeted the Abdali border crossing through a series of hostile drone attacks. This constitutes a blatant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, a direct threat to its security and stability, and a serious breach of the rules of international law, the UN Charter, and Security Council Resolution 2817.

The Ministry stressed that persisting in these blatant and repeated attacks constitutes a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to regional security and stability, reflecting a systematic, unjustifiable, and unacceptable hostile approach. It reaffirmed Kuwait’s full and inherent right to self-defense, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, and its right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, protect its territory and resources, and preserve its security and stability.

In this context, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, Colonel Saud Al-Atwan, announced that the Abdali border crossing was subjected to two hostile drone attacks yesterday afternoon, resulting in material damage but no casualties, praise be to God. In a statement to the Ministry of Defense, Al-Atwan said that specialized teams immediately responded to the incident and took necessary measures to secure the site in coordination with relevant authorities. He added that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams of the Army continued surveying, securing, and clearing drone debris in accordance with approved technical procedures to ensure the site’s safety and freedom from any risks. He emphasized that the Armed Forces continue to perform their duties with high efficiency, maintaining constant readiness and preparedness to protect the nation’s borders and safeguard its security and stability.

The General Staff of the Army stated that Kuwaiti air defenses intercepted hostile drone attacks following the despicable Iranian aggression. The General Staff noted in a statement that the sounds of explosions heard were the result of air defense systems intercepting the hostile attacks, and called on everyone to adhere to safety instructions issued by the competent authorities.

For his part, Major General Mohammed Al-Gharib, official spokesperson for the General Fire Department, announced that fire teams from Central (Sabah) and Abdali stations managed to control a fire that broke out at the Abdali border crossing in the north of the country after it was targeted by hostile drones. In a press statement, Major General Al-Gharib explained that fire teams responded immediately upon arrival, successfully extinguishing and controlling the fire, and confirmed that there were no casualties, with losses limited to material damage.

On the diplomatic front, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Jara Al-Jaber held a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that the call discussed the latest developments in the region, particularly the current escalation and its repercussions, as well as efforts to enhance diplomatic solutions to contribute to maintaining regional security and stability.

Meanwhile, reactions condemning and rejecting the continued despicable Iranian attacks continued. In Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the renewed Iranian attacks targeting the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan with missiles and drones. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that these attacks represent a blatant violation of the sovereignty of sister states and a threat to their security and stability. The Ministry reaffirmed the UAE’s full solidarity with Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan, emphasizing its support for all measures aimed at preserving their security and stability.

In Riyadh, OIC Secretary-General Hussein Ibrahim Taher expressed his strong condemnation of the ongoing Iranian aggression targeting several member states of the Organization, including the recent attacks on Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, affirming that these constitute a blatant and irresponsible violation of the OIC Charter and its principles. In a statement, Taher said these attacks contradict the OIC’s rules and resolutions, which affirm the non-aggression against neighboring states, non-interference in their internal affairs, and the avoidance of actions that destabilize their security and stability. He stressed that such practices are contrary to the spirit of Islamic solidarity upon which the Organization is based.

Taher also strongly condemned threats issued by the terrorist Houthi militia, particularly its threats to close the Bab al-Mandab Strait, considering these threats to require strict, deterrent measures and a firm regional and international stance to end the militia’s crimes and ensure respect for international conventions and the implementation of international law principles. He emphasized the importance of protecting the security of waterways and safeguarding freedom of navigation, without infringing on the regional maritime infrastructure related to energy resources. He called for holding accountable anyone who threatens the region’s security and natural resources, and for firmly confronting the terrorist acts committed by this militia and its supporters.

He added that the Houthis’ threat to close Bab al-Mandab represents a new chapter in their ongoing siege of the Yemeni people and an attempt to subjugate them by halting the flow of humanitarian and development aid. He noted that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in coordination with the legitimate Yemeni government, continues to provide humanitarian and development support to alleviate the suffering of Yemenis, including supporting the government budget and providing necessary petroleum derivatives to operate power stations.

Taher warned that the continued targeting of vital infrastructure, energy facilities, and supply chains poses a direct threat to the stability of the global economy and the integrity of vital supplies, representing a critical escalation that casts a shadow over the system of regional and international peace and security. He reaffirmed his full solidarity and support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Kuwait, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, emphasizing the Organization’s support for all measures taken by these states to safeguard their security, stability, and territorial integrity.

In Tunis, the Arab Interior Ministers Council strongly condemned the despicable Iranian aggression against ships and the threat to maritime navigation security and freedom of international trade. The Council’s Secretariat General stated in a press release that it is closely following the continuous aggressive actions carried out by Iran and its proxies in the region, including attempts to target ships and threaten maritime navigation security, freedom of international trade, and global energy sources in the Strait of Hormuz, the Arabian Gulf, the Red Sea, and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, as well as systematic hostile practices targeting Arab states in the region with ballistic missiles and drones.

The statement stressed that these repeated attacks constitute a blatant violation of international and humanitarian law, principles of good neighborliness, and undermine efforts to enhance security and stability in the region. It reaffirmed the Council’s full solidarity with Arab states in the face of these hostile acts and its absolute support for all measures they take to confront these threats and protect their interests, security, stability, territorial integrity, and the safety of their citizens and residents.

In Khartoum, the Sudanese government condemned the attacks targeting the State of Kuwait, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the Republic of Iraq using missiles and drones, considering them a violation of the sovereignty of states and a threat to their security and stability. The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation stated in a press release its firm rejection of any aggression that infringes upon state sovereignty or threatens territorial integrity, emphasizing that such actions contribute to undermining regional security and stability and expanding the circle of tension, thereby affecting peace efforts and initiatives in the region. The Sudanese government reaffirmed its full solidarity with Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, and Iraq, emphasizing its support for all measures aimed at preserving the security, stability, and sovereignty of these states.
