Kuwait's "Blue Team" defeats Turkmenistan and Iraq

Our national tennis team secured two crucial victories, defeating Turkmenistan 3-0 and Iraq 3-0, in the Davis Cup men’s world group play-offs, which kicked off the day before yesterday in Sri Lanka and will continue until the 25th of this month.

Seven countries are participating in the play-offs, representing Group 4 of the Asia/Oceania zone: Kuwait, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, the Northern Mariana Islands, and Iraq.

In the details of the first match, in which Kuwait defeated Turkmenistan 3-0, Abdulhamid Mubarak beat Turkmenistan’s Reisul Ataev 2-0 in the first singles rubber, and Isa Qabazard defeated Turkmenistan’s Ali Gildiyev 2-0 in the second singles rubber. In the doubles rubber, the Kuwaiti duo of Bader Al-Abdullah and Ali Al-Shatti beat Turkmenistan’s Selim Shagilov and Yuri Rogovsky 2-1. Kuwait also defeated Iraq 3-0 in their second play-off match, with Abdulhamid Mubarak beating Iraq’s Akam Bakr 2-0 in the first singles rubber, and Isa Qabazard defeating Iraq’s Mohammed Al-Shamari 2-0 in the second singles rubber.
