Al-Badawi: Iran seeks to destabilize security and stability in the region and undermine peace efforts

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Al-Budaiwi, and the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, discussed the latest developments in the region and their impact on regional and international security, stability, and the economy.

The GCC General Secretariat stated in a statement on Thursday that this meeting took place during Guterres’s reception of Al-Budaiwi, who was participating in the high-level open debate of the UN Security Council in New York, United States, on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Al-Budaiwi emphasized during the meeting that Iran’s treacherous attacks against GCC member states and its systematic targeting of infrastructure underscore Iran’s intent to undermine security and stability and to thwart peace efforts. He stressed the importance of halting these attacks and deterring Iran from continuing its aggressive policies, thereby safeguarding international peace and security.

For his part, Guterres reiterated his solidarity with the GCC member states against Iranian attacks and highlighted the importance of stopping these attacks, which threaten security and stability.

The two sides also exchanged views on several regional files and the efforts made to address them, as well as ways to enhance cooperation between the GCC and the United Nations.
