Condemnations of Jewish settlers' calls for the "largest collective raid" on Al-Aqsa Mosque

The Arab League condemned calls launched by extremist settler organizations affiliated with the Israeli occupation to organize the largest mass raid on the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, coinciding with what is referred to as the “Day of the Destruction of the Temple” today, warning of the repercussions of these inflammatory calls.

In a statement, the Arab League said that these calls and any accompanying measures and practices protected by the occupation authorities represent an extension of systematic policies aimed at imposing illegal facts in occupied Jerusalem, in blatant violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

It clarified that the continued practices of the occupation authorities in Jerusalem constitute a dangerous escalation and a serious violation of the historical and legal status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and the Noble Sanctuary.

The Arab League placed full responsibility on the Israeli occupation for the consequences of these violations, warning of their dangerous effects on security and stability and their undermining of opportunities to achieve peace.

It called on the international community, especially the Security Council and the United Nations, to fulfill their legal responsibilities and take urgent and concrete measures to stop these violations, ensure the protection of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, preserve the existing historical and legal status quo, and respect the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

It reiterated its support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among which is their right to establish their independent, sovereign state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

For its part, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) warned against attempts to Judaize the Al-Aqsa Mosque and attack Muslim sanctuaries, amid calls by extremist “Temple” groups to mobilize thousands of settlers to raid the mosque during this alleged occasion.

In a statement on Wednesday, the movement said that what is happening in Jerusalem represents attempts to change the city’s religious and historical identity, pointing to the painting of the “Mashiach” (Messiah) logo on the stones of the Eastern Plaza of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, coinciding with calls to carry out a large-scale raid on the mosque today.

Hamas warned of the repercussions of aggression against the Al-Aqsa Mosque, noting that tampering with it crosses red lines. It affirmed that Israel “will not succeed in imposing a Judaized reality or stripping the Al-Aqsa Mosque of its Arab and Islamic identity.”

The Jerusalem Governorate had previously warned of escalating plans led by extremist organizations to carry out the largest mass raid on the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound during the alleged “Day of the Destruction of the Temple.”

In a press statement, the Governorate affirmed that what is happening is no longer merely an activity organized by extremist groups but has become part of the Israeli occupation’s policy aimed at imposing new facts within the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and undermining the existing historical and legal status quo, paving the way for cementing the project of temporal and spatial partitioning.

The statement explained that field and political data monitored in recent days indicate the existence of a wide mobilization plan led by extremist organizations aimed at setting a new record in the number of raiders.

It noted that raids associated with what is called the “Day of the Destruction of the Temple” have seen a continuous escalation in recent years, a clear indicator of a graduated escalation plan aimed at entrenching this day as the largest annual season for raiding the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
