Oil Ministry: New Gas Discovery in Western Desert with Production of 40 Million Cubic Feet per Day

Cairo – Nadeh Imam: The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced that Khalida Petroleum achieved a new gas discovery through drilling the deep exploratory well “Wadda” in the Western Desert, at a depth of 15,000 feet. Khalida is a joint venture between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and the global investor Apache Corporation.

The ministry, in a statement yesterday, said that the well’s electrical logs showed positive indicators confirming the presence of gas-bearing structures. Final production tests, conducted immediately after drilling operations were completed, yielded a production rate of 40 million cubic feet of gas per day, reflecting the well’s promising potential and bolstering efforts to increase domestic production.

Concurrently with drilling and testing activities, the company completed the construction of a new 10-kilometer production line with an investment of $2.3 million, enabling rapid transportation of production and connecting the well to existing infrastructure, as part of a plan to accelerate bringing new discoveries into the production map.

Actual production and gas injection from the new well began yesterday, with plans to fully connect it to the national gas grid before the end of July, according to the targeted schedule. This will contribute to supporting the gas supply system and underscore the continued success of intensified exploration efforts in the Western Desert.
