Cairo – Khadija Hamouda: The foreign ministers of Egypt and Mozambique agreed to activate the work of technical and legal committees to expedite the completion of the review of pending memoranda of understanding between the two sides, according to a joint statement published on Egypt’s Foreign Ministry’s page yesterday.

The statement said that, at the gracious invitation of Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of International Cooperation, and Minister of Egyptians Abroad, Ambassador Maria Manuela Lucas, Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, paid an official visit to Cairo on the day before yesterday. The two ministers jointly chaired the first round of high-level political consultations between the two brotherly countries, coinciding with the celebration of the golden jubilee marking 50 years since the establishment of formal diplomatic relations.

According to the statement, the talks featured a comprehensive review of all tracks of bilateral cooperation and regional and international issues of mutual interest. The two sides expressed aligned views on the importance of joint efforts to strengthen bilateral relations in all fields of mutual importance, as well as the importance of enhancing counter-terrorism and countering extremist ideologies, and preserving the unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of nation-states.

The two sides agreed to activate the work of technical and legal committees to expedite the completion of the review of pending memoranda of understanding between the two sides, and to prepare for the official and historic upcoming visit of President Daniel Francisco Chabo to the Arab Republic of Egypt, in response to an invitation from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

They also agreed to continue Egypt’s support for building the capacities and training Mozambican cadres in priority areas, including through programs of the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development and the Cairo Centre for International Dispute Settlement and Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding.

The two ministers emphasized moving forward with the study and implementation of promising projects between the two sides in the fields of health, agricultural land development, and operating direct logistics and maritime routes.

The enlightening role of the Al-Azhar Al-Sharif scholars’ mission in Mozambique was commended, and the procedural and coordination steps underway to establish the first Coptic Egyptian church in Maputo were welcomed, as they enhance values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to continuing coordination and cooperation within the framework of the African Union, in pursuit of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
