Iranian criminal targeting of the Kuwaiti tanker "Kivan" and several power and water desalination stations for the fourth day

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Hamad Al-Muqain, summoned the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Kuwait, Mohammad Toutounji, to hand over a note of protest regarding Iran’s targeting of the Kuwaiti tanker “Kivan” on Monday evening as it transited the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in injuries to several members of its crew.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Al-Muqain emphasized that this brazen attack occurs amid the escalation of Iran’s unjust aggression against Kuwait since February 28, 2026, including inflammatory and provocative statements issued by the Iranian side. He described the incident as a blatant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and interests, as well as a threat to international navigation security and freedom, constituting a breach of international law, the UN Charter, and UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026).

He reiterated Kuwait’s demand for Iran to immediately halt its unlawful attacks, stressing Kuwait’s right to take necessary measures, and placed full responsibility for this aggression and its continued hostility toward Kuwait on Iran.

The General Headquarters of the Armed Forces announced that Kuwaiti air defenses intercepted hostile missile and drone attacks following Iran’s unjust aggression. In a press statement, the General Headquarters noted that the sounds of explosions heard were the result of air defense systems intercepting the threats.

For its part, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy announced that several power and water desalination stations were targeted on Monday for the fourth consecutive day due to Iran’s unjust aggression against Kuwait. In a press statement issued yesterday, the ministry said the attack caused fires at several facilities within these stations. It added that emergency teams, in coordination with the General Fireforce and security authorities, responded immediately to contain and extinguish the fires.

The statement indicated that damage assessments were underway, with teams implementing repair plans and restoring facilities. It noted that several generation units were taken offline as a precautionary operational measure to ensure equipment safety and the stability of the electrical and water systems. The ministry affirmed it would continue to keep the public informed of developments through its official channels.

Reactions condemning and denouncing the continuation of Iran’s unjust attacks have followed, emphasizing that such acts constitute a blatant violation of state sovereignty and a threat to security and stability.

In Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the renewed Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan with missiles and drones. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that these attacks represent a blatant violation of the sovereignty of sister states and a threat to their security and stability. The statement reaffirmed the UAE’s full solidarity with Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, and its support for all measures aimed at preserving their security and stability.

In Manama, the Kingdom of Bahrain expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the repeated Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan with missiles and drones. The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that these attacks constitute a blatant violation of the sovereignty of both countries, a threat to their security and stability, a serious breach of international law principles, the UN Charter, and a blatant violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817 and principles of good neighborliness. The ministry affirmed Bahrain’s full solidarity with the two brother countries and its complete support for the legitimate measures they take to preserve their sovereignty, security, stability, and territorial integrity. It stressed the urgent need for an immediate and comprehensive halt to Iran’s unjustified and unjust attacks on countries in the region, and the prioritization of dialogue and peaceful means to enhance regional and international security and stability.
