Spain's celebrations of their 2026 World Cup title reach the Earth's interior... Seismographs record crowd chants

A scientific study announced that Spanish fans’ celebrations of winning the 2026 World Cup title were not limited to stadiums and streets, but were also recorded by seismic monitoring stations across the country. According to a report by Agence France-Presse (AFP), the Barcelona Geosciences Center clarified that researchers analyzed data from Spain’s National Geographic Institute and the Catalan Institute of Geology and Cartography, revealing unusual signals that coincided with fan celebrations in several cities, including Barcelona, Granada, Cádiz, and the Algarve. Seismic sensors detected three main waves of activity during the final match against Argentina: the first after Ferran Torres’ goal in extra time, the second following a goal that was disallowed after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review, and the third and strongest with the final whistle and the announcement of Spain’s victory in its second World Cup title in history, following the 2010 edition. Scientists explained that this phenomenon falls under what is known as “human-induced seismic activity,” when thousands of people move and jump simultaneously, noting that monitoring devices had recorded similar phenomena during the 2024 UEFA European Championship final.
