Kuwait: Iran's repeated deliberate targeting of vital and civilian facilities reflects a systematic aggressive approach and constitutes a highly dangerous escalation

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the State of Kuwait’s condemnation and strongest denunciation of the culpable Iranian aggression that occurred yesterday morning, which targeted another power and desalination plant, in a direct attack on a vital civilian facility. The Ministry emphasized that the repeated deliberate targeting of vital and civilian infrastructure reflects a systematic aggressive approach, represents a highly dangerous escalation, and poses a serious threat to the safety and security of civilians. It constitutes a blatant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, the UN Charter, and Security Council Resolution 2817, holding Iran fully legally and morally responsible for these serious attacks and their ensuing repercussions and consequences.

The Ministry stressed that Kuwait reserves its full right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its security and defend its territory and vital facilities against any aggression or threat, based on its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and international law.

For its part, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy announced that the power and desalination plant was attacked for the second time within two days due to the culpable Iranian aggression against Kuwait, resulting in fires breaking out in some of the plant’s facilities. In a press statement, the Ministry said the attack affected a large number of power generation units, necessitating the activation of emergency plans and immediate response to mitigate the impact and maintain the stability of the electrical system.

It added that the General Fire Force teams responded immediately to the incident and controlled the fire to extinguish it, while technical and emergency teams affiliated with the Ministry, in coordination with security authorities, implemented necessary technical and precautionary measures to secure the plant, assess damages, and restore affected units to service as quickly as possible, adhering to the highest safety standards. The Ministry confirmed that technical teams are working around the clock to maintain the stability of the electrical system and ensure continuous service, with ongoing monitoring of grid indicators and taking all necessary measures to limit any potential impact on the system.

For his part, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, Colonel Saud Al-Atwan, stated that the Armed Forces detected hostile ballistic missiles and drones within Kuwaiti airspace since dawn yesterday, which were intercepted and dealt with. He added that the culpable Iranian aggression continues to target civilian and vital facilities in the country, with attacks hitting facilities belonging to the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, causing fires and severe damage to several of its vital infrastructure and facilities. The Armed Forces affirmed their continued execution of their duties with high efficiency, within the framework of constant readiness and preparedness, taking all necessary measures to protect the nation’s sovereignty, security, and stability, in coordination with competent authorities, to safeguard the safety of citizens and residents.

On the diplomatic front, Foreign Minister Sheikh Jara Al-Jaber held a telephone conversation with the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, during which the culpable Iranian attacks recently targeting Kuwait were condemned. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that the call reaffirmed Kuwait’s full right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and stability. The latest developments in the region were also discussed, particularly the current escalation and its repercussions, as well as efforts to enhance diplomatic solutions to contribute to maintaining regional security and stability.

On another note, Foreign Minister Sheikh Jara Al-Jaber received a telephone call from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Ayman Safadi. During the call, the culpable Iranian attacks recently targeting both Kuwait and Jordan were condemned. Both sides affirmed their full right to take all necessary measures to safeguard their sovereignty, security, and stability. The latest regional developments were discussed, particularly the current escalation and its repercussions, and efforts to enhance diplomatic solutions to contribute to maintaining regional security and stability.

Reactions condemning and denouncing the continuation of culpable Iranian attacks continued. In Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the renewed aggressive Iranian attacks targeting the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan with missiles and drones. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that these aggressive attacks constitute a blatant violation of the sovereignty of sister states and a threat to their security and stability. The Ministry renewed the UAE’s full solidarity with Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan, and its support for all measures aimed at preserving their security and stability.

In Aden, the Yemeni government strongly condemned the renewed Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting vital facilities in Kuwait, including power and desalination plants and facilities belonging to the oil sector. The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement received by KUNA, condemned the attacks that also targeted Bahrain and Jordan, considering them a blatant violation of the sovereignty of these two states and a threat to their security and stability. It affirmed the full solidarity of the Republic of Yemen with Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, and its support for all measures they take to preserve their security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

In Jeddah, the Muslim World League strongly condemned Iran’s continued culpable attacks on Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan. In a statement, the League’s Secretary-General and Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars, Dr. Muhammad Al-Issa, reiterated his denunciation of the repeated criminal Iranian attacks targeting civilian and vital infrastructure, which violate all religious values, international laws, and customs, and pose a serious threat to the security, stability, and safety of the region’s peoples. Al-Issa stressed full solidarity with Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan in all measures they take to safeguard their security, sovereignty, and the safety of their citizens and residents.
