Video: Smuggling of 8.5 kg of cannabis, brought by a Beninese national from Addis Ababa via Terminal 4, thwarted

Ahmad Khamis: The General Administration of Customs announced the thwarting of an attempt to smuggle 8.5 kg of hashish, brought by an immigrant from Benin arriving from Addis Ababa via Terminal 4 (T4).

In a statement issued by the administration, it said: “In implementation of the directives of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, and under the presence and supervision of the Deputy Head of the General Administration of Customs for Border Crossings, Research and Customs Investigation Affairs, Saleh Al-Omar, aimed at enhancing customs supervision and countering attempts to smuggle prohibited materials, officers of the General Administration of Customs at Kuwait Airport Customs (T4), thanks to their vigilance and field efforts in customs inspection and supervision, succeeded in thwarting an attempt to smuggle a quantity of narcotic hashish in the possession of a traveler arriving from Addis Ababa, Republic of Ethiopia.

The Customs Administration added that the seizure followed a thorough customs inspection of the smuggler’s luggage, which yielded the discovery of two suitcases containing approximately 8.547 kilograms of narcotic hashish, with 3.732 kilograms in the first suitcase and 4.815 kilograms in the second. The drugs were professionally concealed inside the bottom of the suitcases and wrapped in a foil-like material in an attempt to evade customs inspection and supervision.

It noted that the appropriate legal procedures were taken, including drafting a seizure report and referring the suspect and the seized items to the General Administration for Combating Narcotics and Alcohol to complete the legal proceedings against him.

The Customs Administration affirmed its continued implementation of the directives of the security leadership, strengthening the customs supervision system at all border crossings, and deploying its human and technical resources to counter attempts to smuggle prohibited materials, thereby contributing to the protection of national and societal security and ensuring the safety of all.”
