In Video: Kuwait Fire Department Warns: Long Clothing May Get Caught in Elevator Doors and Cause Accidents

The Kuwait General Fire Force has urged caution and vigilance when using elevators, warning against wearing long clothing while riding them due to the risk of garments getting caught in elevator doors or moving parts, which could lead to preventable accidents if safety guidelines are not followed.

In an awareness video shared on its official social media accounts, the Force emphasized that adhering to elevator usage guidelines helps reduce accidents and ensures the safety of users. It highlighted that one of the most common mistakes is using elevators during fires or emergencies, noting that using stairs is the safer option for evacuation.

The Force stressed the importance of not overloading elevators beyond their specified capacity, as doing so may cause sudden malfunctions or elevator stoppages. It reaffirmed the necessity of complying with the load limits set by the manufacturer. Additionally, it called on parents not to allow children to use elevators unsupervised and to educate them against tampering with control buttons or attempting to stop the elevator between floors, as such actions pose risks to both the children and other users.

The Force also advised against using elevators to transport hazardous materials unless done in accordance with approved safety requirements and procedures, to avoid potential dangers from leaks or fires inside the elevator.

Regarding elevator breakdowns, the General Fire Force stressed the importance of remaining calm and avoiding attempts to force exit or climb between floors. It urged individuals to immediately contact relevant authorities or emergency services and wait for rescue teams.

Furthermore, it emphasized the importance of regular elevator maintenance and reporting any unusual noises or malfunctions to specialized maintenance companies without delay, to ensure user safety and minimize the occurrence of accidents.
