Emirati and Omani superiority in the playwriting competition

Maraf Al-Shammari The ninth edition of the Cairo International Monodrama Days Festival concluded its activities by announcing the results of the Playwriting Competition (Theatrical Text), which witnessed broad Arab participation and resulted in the crowning of a select group of writers whose texts were distinguished by their ideas and creative visions in the art of monodrama.

The first prize went to Egyptian writer Ayman Hafiz for his text “Gutha Al-Sayl” (The Sludge of the Flood). The second prize was shared between Omani poet and writer Abdulrazzaq Al-Rabi’i for his text “The Last Hour of the World,” and Dr. Habib Ghaloom from the United Arab Emirates for his text “We Are All Fools,” adding a new achievement to his rich theatrical career.

The third prize was shared between Egyptian writer Magdy Halim Kamal Awad for his text “Monodrama Competition,” and Omani writer Mohammed bin Saif Al-Rahbi for his text “The Dove Flies.”

The results reflect the level of competition witnessed by the contest this year, as well as the notable Arab presence in monodrama writing, considered one of the most challenging forms of theater due to the skill required to construct a text that relies on a single actor while maintaining the richness of the event and the depth of the idea.
