Court of Appeal Dismisses Domestic Violence Lawsuit Due to Passage of Time

The Misdemeanor Court of Appeal overturned the first-instance judge’s ruling that had fined a citizen accused in a domestic violence case, and again dismissed the criminal prosecution on the grounds that the statute of limitations had expired, thereby concluding the case proceedings. The ruling came after lawyer Mohammed Al-Otaibi’s closing arguments, in which he insisted on the plea of dismissal due to the expiration of the limitation period, citing legal provisions and judicial precedents, and arguing the absence of the essential elements of the crime, while affirming that the accusation was malicious and fabricated.
