Iran’s treacherous attacks are war crimes requiring international accountability

In the wake of Iran’s treacherous attacks on Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, a wave of condemnations and strong denunciations followed, criticizing Iran’s continued hostile approach and the highly dangerous escalation that threatens to complicate efforts to contain tensions.

Initially, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassem Al-Bedaiwi expressed his strongest condemnation of the treacherous Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, including strikes on infrastructure and civilian facilities that resulted in injuries to several civilian workers in Kuwait. In a statement, Al-Bedaiwi said Iran’s actions constituted a highly dangerous escalation and a serious violation of international law and the UN Charter, amounting to war crimes that warrant international accountability. He emphasized that the attacks involved deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure and facilities, in blatant disregard of all international norms and conventions, and represented a deliberate attempt to undermine regional security and stability. He affirmed that the GCC stands united with Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, supporting all measures they take to protect their security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, while expressing hopes for the swift recovery of the injured in Kuwait.

Saudi Arabia, for its part, strongly condemned Iran’s continued brutal aggression against Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan. It reaffirmed its full support for the sister nations in their response to the Iranian attacks, which violate international law and principles of good neighborliness. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that the Kingdom firmly rejects Iran’s blatant attacks on critical infrastructure and civilian facilities, including an electricity power station and a water desalination plant in Kuwait. It stressed the urgent need for an immediate halt to all forms of military escalation to preserve the security and stability of these countries.

In Doha, Qatar strongly condemned the renewed Iranian attacks on the territories of Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, viewing them as a blatant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the targeted sister states, as well as a flagrant breach of international law, the UN Charter, and principles of good neighborliness. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement yesterday that targeting electricity and water desalination stations in Kuwait crosses all red lines and constitutes a clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which reaffirms respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of these states and rejects attacks on civilians and vital facilities. The ministry further emphasized that the continuation of these attacks represents a dangerous escalation that complicates efforts to contain tensions and undermines political and diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in the region. It stressed the necessity of an immediate and complete cessation of all military actions and attacks threatening regional security and stability, and refraining from any actions that could widen the scope of escalation, while returning seriously to dialogue, negotiations, and commitments reached through diplomatic efforts.

Qatar also strongly condemned the renewed Iranian attacks on its own territory and that of other regional states, considering them a blatant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the targeted states and a flagrant breach of international law, the UN Charter, and principles of good neighborliness. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the continuation of these attacks represents a dangerous escalation that complicates containment efforts and undermines political and diplomatic initiatives for regional security and stability, holding Iran fully legally responsible for these attacks and their consequences. The ministry confirmed that Qatar reserves its full right to respond in accordance with international law and Article 51 of the UN Charter, and to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, security, territorial integrity, and citizens. It reiterated Qatar’s full solidarity with sister states and its support for all legitimate measures they take to safeguard their sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. It stressed the urgent need for an immediate and complete halt to all military actions and attacks threatening regional security and stability, and refraining from any actions that could expand the escalation, while returning seriously to dialogue, negotiations, and diplomatic understandings.

In Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the renewed Iranian aggressive attacks on Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan using missiles and drones. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that these attacks represent a blatant violation of the sovereignty of sister states and a threat to their security and stability. It reaffirmed the UAE’s full solidarity with Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, and its support for all measures aimed at preserving their security and stability. The UAE also strongly condemned the renewed Iranian attacks on Qatar, stating that they constitute a blatant violation of the sovereignty of sister states and a threat to their security and stability.

In Manama, the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Bahrain’s strong condemnation and denunciation of the repeated despicable Iranian attacks, carried out by missiles and drones, targeting civilian and vital facilities in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Jordan. It described these attacks as a serious escalation threatening civilian safety and regional security and stability, and a blatant violation of international law, the UN Charter, and principles of good neighborliness. The ministry affirmed Bahrain’s full solidarity with sister states and its support for their right to take all lawful measures to defend their sovereignty, security, stability, and protect citizens and residents on their territory, in accordance with international law, Article 51 of the UN Charter, and the GCC Joint Defense Agreement. It expressed appreciation for the competence and high readiness of the Bahrain Defense Force and the air defenses of regional states in confronting the despicable Iranian attacks and defending the sovereignty of their countries and the achievements of their peoples. It renewed Bahrain’s call on the international community, particularly the Security Council, to take firm and deterrent measures to compel Iran to cease its hostile actions and ensure the security, safety, and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, holding it fully accountable under international law, the UN Charter, Security Council Resolution 2817, and Human Rights Council Resolution 1/61, thereby enhancing security, stability, peace, and sustainable development in the region and the world.

In Cairo, Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy warned of the repercussions of Iran’s despicable and reckless attacks on several Arab countries, particularly in the Gulf region, affirming that they represent an open attempt to expand the conflict and undermine security and stability in the region. In a statement, Fahmy expressed full rejection of this unjustified Iranian aggression, noting that the escalating pace of Iran’s blatant attacks on Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq reflects an aggressive stance that cannot be ignored or accepted. He condemned the Iranian attacks that targeted infrastructure and vital facilities in these countries, affirming that they constitute a blatant violation of Arab sovereignty, international law, and principles of good neighborliness, reflecting Iranian policies based on miscalculations and a distorted reading of reality. He stressed that any attack on any Arab state is an attack on Arab national security and the collective interests of the Arab nation, calling on Iran to immediately cease these attacks and stop fomenting tensions, spreading chaos, and threatening navigation security through its proxies in the region. He reaffirmed the League’s full solidarity with Arab states and its support for them in facing serious challenges threatening their sovereignty and harming their interests and Arab national security, as well as its support for all measures taken by Arab states to safeguard their security and stability.

For its part, Egypt strongly condemned the Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman, including attacks on several civilian facilities and vital infrastructure. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that these actions constitute a blatant violation of the sovereignty of those states and a dangerous escalation threatening the security and stability of the Gulf region and increasing regional tensions. Egypt affirmed its full solidarity with sister states and its support for them in facing any threats to their security, stability, and territorial integrity.

Jordan also condemned the renewed brutal Iranian attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain, and the targeting of an electricity power station and water desalination plant. The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that these actions constitute a blatant violation of sovereignty, a threat to security, stability, and territorial integrity, a dangerous escalation, and a clear breach of international law and the UN Charter. The ministry affirmed Jordan’s absolute solidarity with Kuwait and Bahrain and its support for them in all steps taken to protect their sovereignty, security, and the safety of their citizens and residents.

In Aden, the Yemeni government strongly condemned the continued unjustified Iranian attacks using missiles and drones on Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan. The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement received by KUNA that these attacks represent a blatant violation of state sovereignty and territorial integrity, a threat to regional security and stability, and a clear breach of international law, the UN Charter, and the Charter of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The statement affirmed Yemen’s full solidarity with Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan, and its support for all measures taken by these states to preserve their security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Yamah strongly condemned the renewed blatant Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan, affirming that they constitute a blatant violation of Arab sovereignty and a dangerous escalation threatening regional security and stability. In a statement, Al-Yamah said these attacks represent a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter, noting that their continuation and deliberate targeting of vital civilian facilities necessitate a firm international stance to stop them and prevent their recurrence. He called on the international community and the Security Council to fulfill their legal, political, and moral responsibilities and take urgent and decisive steps to end these attacks and prevent their recurrence. He affirmed the Arab Parliament’s full solidarity with the targeted states and its absolute support for the measures they take to preserve their security, stability, sovereignty, and protect their citizens and residents.

In Tunis, the Council of Arab Interior Ministers strongly condemned Iran’s despicable aggression against Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan, expressing its full solidarity and absolute support for the targeted Arab states. The General Secretariat stated in a statement that the Council received with utmost indignation news of Iran’s despicable aggression using ballistic missiles and drones on Friday morning against Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, and Qatar, considering it a blatant violation of international law and principles of good neighborliness. The Council of Arab Interior Ministers stressed that this brutal aggression, which warrants strong condemnation, falls within Iran’s continuous hostile behavior and its persistent efforts to undermine security and stability in the region and threaten international peace and security. In this regard, it reaffirmed its full solidarity and absolute support for Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, and all other Arab states in all measures they take to protect their security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, citizens, and residents.

For its part, the Muslim World League strongly condemned Iran’s continued despicable attacks on Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan. The League’s Secretary-General and President of the Council of Senior Scholars, Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, renewed his denunciation in a statement of Iran’s repeated criminal attacks that violate all religious values, international laws, and humanitarian norms, and pose a serious threat to regional security and stability. He stressed full solidarity with Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan in all measures they take to safeguard their security, sovereignty, and the safety of their citizens and residents.
