The fourth Monodrama Festival will kick off on the 26th at the Royal Cultural Center Theater in Amman, as part of the 40th edition of the Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts, featuring theatrical performances from Jordan and ten Arab countries. According to a press statement issued by the festival management on Friday, the organizers have selected the renowned Jordanian artist Qamar Al-Safadi as the personality of the fourth edition, and will honor Lebanese artist Julia Qassar and Syrian artist Abdulmoneim Omari.
The participating performances this year include: “Hawr” from Jordan; “The Last Supper” from Jordan; “Al-Hakoura” from Palestine; “Mr. Random” from Bahrain; “Master of the Stage” from Syria; “Emotional Auction” from Saudi Arabia; “Smoke” from Iraq; “Letters Before Death” from Morocco; “Cage” from Tunisia; “The Fetus” from Libya; “In Red Shoes” from Sudan; and “The Arrival” from Egypt.
Festival director and artist Abeer Issa stated in a press release: “This festival began as a dream that has haunted me for years—that Jordan would host a specialized festival nurturing this difficult yet beautiful art form, which places the actor alone on stage facing the audience.”
Issa added: “Today, as we launch the fourth edition within the framework of the 40th Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts, I can say with great pride and honor that the dream has not only come true, but has also proven its existence as a challenging milestone on the creative landscape, both in Jordan and across the Arab world, charting a distinctive path that reflects our passion as artists.”
