Aerial attack on key sites in the oil sector and two power and water desalination plants

Iran continued its brazen attacks on vital installations and civilian facilities. The Kuwait Petroleum Corporation announced that a key site in the oil sector was subjected to repeated, brutal Iranian attacks yesterday morning, resulting in significant material losses and some injuries. The injured were treated and the site was evacuated. In a statement to KUNA, the corporation said the response to the attack was coordinated with relevant state authorities.

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy also announced that, amid the heinous Iranian aggression against Kuwait, another power generation and water desalination plant came under enemy attack, causing a fire in one of its components. In a statement on the social media platform X, the Ministry said the attack necessitated the implementation of precautionary operational measures, including disconnecting several generation units to ensure the safety of the plant and its workers and to guarantee the stability of the electrical grid. It noted that the Ministry’s emergency teams immediately began, in coordination with the General Fireforce and relevant authorities, to deal with the fire. It confirmed that all operational and emergency plans were activated immediately upon the incident to ensure the continuity of both the electrical and water systems and to mitigate any potential impact on services, with continuous technical and operational monitoring around the clock.

The Ministry appealed to citizens and residents to cooperate during this exceptional phase by rationalizing electricity consumption, particularly between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., to help reduce loads on the electrical grid and support technical teams in completing repair works and restoring operational readiness as quickly as possible. It affirmed that it would continue to update the public on any developments through its official channels, urging everyone to obtain information from official sources and to ignore rumors or unverified information.

Previously, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy had announced that, as a result of the heinous Iranian aggression against Kuwait, one of the power generation and water desalination plants came under attack, causing damage to plant facilities, a fire, and damage to a large number of electricity generation units. This necessitated the activation of emergency plans and immediate response to the incident to limit its effects and maintain the stability of the electrical grid. It added that the General Fireforce teams immediately responded to the incident, managing to control and extinguish the fire, while the Ministry’s technical and emergency teams coordinated with relevant authorities to implement necessary technical and precautionary measures to assess damages, secure the plant, and work on returning affected units to service as soon as possible, adhering to the highest safety standards.

The Ministry clarified that technical teams continued working around the clock to maintain the stability of the electrical grid and ensure service continuity, with continuous monitoring of electrical grid indicators and taking all necessary measures to limit any potential impact on the system. It appealed to citizens and residents to cooperate with the Ministry during this exceptional phase by rationalizing electricity consumption, as this has a direct impact on supporting the stability of the national electrical grid, enabling technical teams to manage the system efficiently, and ensuring service continuity across the country. The Ministry affirmed that public awareness and cooperation under these circumstances are an integral part of the national efforts to deal with the repercussions of this aggression, and that every contribution to rationalizing consumption enhances the electrical system’s capacity to overcome this phase and supports repair works and the rehabilitation of damaged facilities as quickly as possible. It noted that it would continue to inform the public of developments through its official channels, praying to God Almighty to protect Kuwait and perpetuate its blessings of security and safety.

For his part, Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy Dr. Subaih Al-Makhzouim conducted an inspection visit to the site of the incident at one of the power generation and water desalination plants to monitor the response operations and follow up on the technical measures taken to deal with the incident. In a press statement, the Ministry said that Minister Al-Makhzouim, accompanied by Deputy Minister Dr. Adel Al-Zamil, reviewed the efforts made by the Ministry’s emergency teams in coordination with the General Fireforce and security authorities, which, by God’s grace, resulted in full control over the fire and its extinguishing after a six-hour firefighting operation. Technical teams continued to assess damages and begin rehabilitation works. Minister Al-Makhzouim praised the significant efforts made by emergency and firefighting teams, as well as engineering and technical staff, for their rapid response and efficient handling of the incident, affirming that work would continue until repair works were completed and damaged units were returned to service according to the highest standards of safety and efficiency.

Dr. Subaih Al-Makhzouim also conducted an inspection visit to the site of the incident at the power generation and water desalination plant to assess on-site the damage caused by the brutal aggression, follow up on response and emergency operations, and review the technical measures taken to contain its repercussions. In a press statement on Friday, the Ministry said that Minister Al-Makhzouim, accompanied by Al-Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Hamad Al-Jaber and Deputy Minister Dr. Adel Al-Zamil, listened to a detailed technical briefing on the nature of the damages and the urgent measures taken from the first moments of the incident.

The statement added that Al-Makhzouim heard about the ongoing rehabilitation and repair plans to return damaged units to service according to the highest standards of efficiency and safety, and closely reviewed the efforts of security, safety, firefighting teams, and engineering and technical staff working at the site. He noted that he praised the rapid response and high efficiency demonstrated by field teams and their continuous round-the-clock efforts to restore normal conditions as quickly as possible. He emphasized that the Ministry was operating at full capacity, deploying all its technical and human resources in coordination with relevant authorities to ensure the continuity of electricity and water production and to limit any potential repercussions of the incident, commending the dedication and sincerity of workers in fulfilling their national duty.

The statement pointed out that the Minister directed the continuation of assessment and repair works according to the highest standards of quality and safety, with continued precise field monitoring and acceleration of work pace to address all effects of the incident and return damaged units to their normal operational status.
