World Health Organization designates Kuwait's Medical Responsibility Organization as a Global Reference Center for a Four-Year Term

In a new international achievement that embodies the advanced standing of Kuwait’s healthcare system, the World Health Organization (WHO) has designated the Medical Responsibility Authority as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Medical Responsibility for a period of four years, according to an official letter addressed by Dr. Hanan Baloumi, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, to Dr. Salman Khalifa Al Sabah, Deputy Minister of Health, in his capacity as the founder and former chairman of the Medical Responsibility Authority.

The letter announced the designation of the Medical Responsibility Authority as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Medical Responsibility, under reference number KUW-11, effective from July 11, 2026, to July 10, 2030. This step reflects international confidence in the Authority’s role in developing the medical responsibility system, enhancing the quality of health practices, and contributing to capacity building and the exchange of expertise at both regional and international levels.

In its letter, the WHO confirmed that this designation followed the Authority’s completion of the technical and institutional requirements recognized by the organization. It noted that collaborating centers work on joint implementation programs in accordance with the highest quality standards, thereby contributing to the development of evidence-based policies and practices and strengthening international cooperation in specialized fields.

On this occasion, Dr. Salman Khalifa Al Sabah expressed his deep pride in this designation, affirming that it represents the culmination of a national journey of institutional work and scientific planning, and reflects the standing that the State of Kuwait has achieved among specialized international organizations, thanks to the progress made in its health, regulatory, and legislative systems.

He further emphasized that this achievement is a success for the State of Kuwait and its healthcare system, embodying international confidence in national competencies and their ability to contribute to the development of policies and professional practices, as well as to enhance scientific cooperation and the exchange of expertise with peer centers and institutions worldwide.

He added that the designation of the Authority as a WHO Collaborating Centre opens new horizons for international partnerships in research, training, and capacity building, and contributes to developing the medical responsibility system in line with global best practices. This will positively impact the quality of health services and patient safety, aligning with the State of Kuwait’s vision to enhance institutional excellence and elevate the level of healthcare.
