Al-Rayyan defeats its Syrian counterpart

Our national volleyball team defeated their Syrian counterparts 3-0 in their opening match of the second West Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship, hosted in the Omani capital, Muscat.

The “Blue” team deservedly won the match, which was attended by Kuwait’s Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, Dr. Mohammed Al-Hajjri, after a strong performance that secured victories in the sets with scores of 25-17, 25-15, and 25-16, ensuring the team’s qualification for the semi-finals ahead of their next match against Qatar on Saturday evening.

In a previous match in Group B, the Iraqi national team defeated Saudi Arabia 3-1, allowing the Omani team, which had beaten Lebanon, to take the top spot in the group.

The Sultanate of Oman is hosting the second edition of the West Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat from the 14th to the 21st of this month, with seven participating teams: Kuwait, Syria, and Qatar in Group A, and Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Iraq, and Oman in Group B.

The knockout stage begins on Monday with a match to determine fifth and sixth place between the third-placed teams from each group, and two semi-final matches, where the first-placed team from Group A will face the second-placed team from Group B, and the second-placed team from Group A will face the first-placed team from Group B.

The championship will conclude on the 21st with matches to determine third and fourth place, and the final to crown the champion of the second edition.

It is worth noting that the tournament is played in a single round-robin format within each group, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals to compete for the title.
