"Health Care": Over 7 Million Medical and Therapeutic Services for Comprehensive Health Insurance Beneficiaries in Suez
Cairo - Nadeh Imam The General Authority for Health Care reviewed the achievements of the comprehensive health insurance system in the Suez Governorate, more than a year and a half after the official launch of the system in the governorate. It emphasized that Suez has achieved qualitative milestones reflecting the political leadership’s vision of building a modern health system that provides safe, comprehensive, and sustainable health services to citizens, in line with the highest global quality standards.
Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the General Authority for Health Care, stated that the Authority’s facilities in Suez have provided over 7 million medical and therapeutic services since the official launch of the system. This includes more than 2 million primary care services delivered through family medicine centers and units, which serve as the first point of access for beneficiaries to obtain services under the comprehensive health insurance system. These services enhance concepts of primary healthcare, prevention, and early detection. Additionally, over 26,000 surgeries and surgical interventions were performed, with 22% representing advanced and skilled procedures, reflecting the development of specialized service levels within the Authority’s hospitals in the governorate.
The Chairman explained that launching the comprehensive health insurance system contributed to enhancing the capacity of health facilities in Suez, reaching 543 inpatient beds, 141 intensive care unit beds, 27 pediatric beds, 61 incubators, and 28 operating rooms. This infrastructure supports the delivery of integrated health services according to the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
He noted the Authority’s success in accrediting 29 health facilities in Suez according to the standards of the General Authority for Accreditation and Health Care Quality Control (GAHAR), representing 94% of the Authority’s total health facilities in the governorate. This achievement reflects the Authority’s commitment to applying the highest standards of quality and patient safety, alongside registering over 591,000 citizens in the comprehensive health insurance system in the governorate.
He added that the comprehensive health insurance system in Suez has implemented one of the largest health development plans, with investments nearing 6 billion Egyptian pounds. This includes the construction of the largest medical complex in northern Egypt, the development of four specialized hospitals and 27 family medicine centers and units, with plans to expand to 33 health facilities. These efforts strengthen the health system’s capacities and meet citizens’ needs.
Suez Governorate has witnessed the introduction of several specialized medical services for the first time, including cardiac and cerebral catheterization, advanced laparoscopic surgeries, cochlear implantation, microsurgery, and the use of artificial intelligence technologies in colonoscopies. It also offers pediatric hematology services. These advancements have made the governorate a destination for many senior professors and consultants, leveraging its strategic geographical location and proximity to Cairo and the New Administrative Capital.
The Authority also succeeded in fully computerizing 100% of family medicine centers and units in Suez, as part of its digital transformation strategy. This contributes to improving operational efficiency, accelerating service delivery, enhancing the beneficiary experience, and strengthening the quality of healthcare provided to citizens.
