7.3-magnitude earthquake strikes southern Mexico.. Tsunami warning issued

The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued a tsunami warning on Friday after a 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck southern Mexico near its border with Guatemala in the Pacific Ocean. Residents of the Mexican states of Chiapas and Oaxaca, as well as those in Guatemala and El Salvador, felt the tremor noticeably. Authorities have not yet reported any casualties. The United States Geological Survey reported that the 7.3-magnitude earthquake, which hit southern Mexico along the Guatemalan border, was followed by a 5.3-magnitude aftershock, with no major damage reported in initial accounts received by Agence France-Presse. The earthquake occurred in Pacific waters at a depth of 15 kilometers, at approximately 9:48 a.m. (2:48 p.m. GMT), about 50 kilometers from the city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez in Chiapas state.
