Three German airlines submit applications to operate flights to Syria

The General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport announced that three German airlines are interested in operating flights to Syria, coinciding with the announcement of the signing of the bilateral air transport agreement and the joint Syrian-German committee agreement in Damascus on Thursday.

The head of the Authority, Omar Al-Hussary, stated that Syria and Germany have signed the bilateral air transport agreement, a step that rebuilds the legal framework governing air relations between the two countries after years of suspension.

In a post on the X platform, he noted that with the signing of this agreement, the necessary legal and regulatory framework has been completed, and the process has moved to the practical stage, which includes finalizing operational procedures, designating air carriers, receiving operational requests, and coordinating with the relevant authorities in both countries.

Al-Hussary added that in parallel with the expected lifting of the ban on the 27th of the current month, the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport is currently reviewing applications from three German airlines interested in operating flights to Syria, while the relevant German authorities are reviewing applications to designate Syrian national carriers, paving the way for completing operational procedures in accordance with the provisions of the agreement.

These steps mark the beginning of a new phase in re-establishing direct air connectivity between Syria and Germany, which will contribute to serving the Syrian diaspora, enhancing travel flows, and supporting economic, investment, and tourism cooperation between the two countries.
