Study reveals: Smartphone users may check their devices more than 200 times a day

A recent report revealed that smartphones have become an essential part of daily life, yet usage patterns indicate growing dependence among many users.

According to data from Communique Affairs, the average user in the United States checks or looks at their phone 205 times a day, roughly 12 times per hour during waking hours.

The report clarified that this behavior is not solely driven by checking messages or news, but is also influenced by how the brain responds to digital rewards. New notifications and interactions can reinforce the urge to repeatedly check the phone.

It also noted that the average user receives around 96 notifications daily, further increasing the frequency of device usage.

To help achieve a better balance, the report recommended monitoring screen time using built-in phone tools, reducing unnecessary notifications, keeping the phone out of reach during certain periods, and adopting more structured digital habits tailored to each user’s needs.
