Iraqi Kurdistan: Casualties after missile strike on Iranian opposition headquarters in Sulaymaniyah

The opposition group KADUK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party of Iran) announced that eight of its members were killed and several others injured in an attack targeting its main headquarters in the early hours of Friday in Sulaymaniyah province, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

In a statement, the association said its main headquarters in Zarkoyezla, Sulaymaniyah province, were hit by six missiles and caught fire. Earlier, the General Directorate for Counter-Terrorism in the Kurdistan Region announced that coalition forces intercepted and destroyed eight rigged drones in the city’s skies, with no casualties reported.

Idris Kolahvazi, a senior figure in the opposition Iranian Komala Party, told AFP that “Iranian forces shelled the camp located near Sulaymaniyah, the second-largest city in Iraqi Kurdistan, with missiles and drones at 4:30 a.m., resulting in the deaths of eight of our members and injuring others.”

Coalition forces also shot down eight rigged drones over Erbil on Wednesday evening. An AFP correspondent reported hearing explosions near the US Consulate, which has been a frequent target of attacks during the war in the Middle East. No group has claimed responsibility for the drone attacks in Erbil.
