“Syrians as Enemies” Becomes “Protectors of 1982”

Director Layth Hajj continues filming his series “The Syrians Are the Enemies,” which has been renamed “Hama 1982,” based on the novel of the same name by writer Fawwaz Haddad. The series primarily depicts the events that took place in the city of Hama in 1982, and the repercussions that extended to several Syrian cities and governorates over the following decades, up to the year the Syrian Revolution erupted in 2011.

The series “Hama 1982” offers a dramatic treatment that relies on three main chronological threads, beginning in the 1970s, moving through the 1980s and their sharp political and social transformations, and culminating in the years preceding 2011.

The story revolves around the fate of two families whose lives intertwine amid the major transformations the country experienced. Political differences gradually evolve into a social crisis, then into a personal conflict that affects family relationships and friendships, while the past continues to exert its influence on the children, who find themselves facing the consequences of decisions they were not part of. The work stars Bassam Kousa, Salom Haddad, Yara Sabri, Fadi Subaih, Fayez Qazaq, and others.
