Ministry of Commerce Seizes Home-Based Workers Collecting Fees in Cash, Closes 10 Violating Shops in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh

Kuwait officials announced that Faisal Al-Ansari, Director of the Commercial Control Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, ordered the closure of 10 non-compliant commercial establishments and issued 152 violation reports during a joint government campaign carried out by regulatory and security authorities in the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area, as part of ongoing efforts to monitor markets, curb commercial violations, and protect consumers.

Al-Ansari stated that the campaign involved the Farwaniya Emergency Center and emergency teams from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Regulatory teams conducted intensive inspection rounds across various commercial activities in the area, resulting in the detection of diverse violations and the initiation of legal proceedings against those responsible.

He clarified that the campaign led to the closure of a restaurant and a café for selling adulterated and expired goods, as well as the seizure of several gold shops that violated ministerial decisions by failing to provide the required electronic payment services.

Al-Ansari added that regulatory teams also identified violations by domestic labor recruitment agencies, including the illegal collection of fees in cash, contrary to prevailing regulations. Additionally, they seized travel agencies operating without valid licenses.

Al-Ansari emphasized that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry continues to carry out inspection campaigns across various areas and commercial activities, aiming to strengthen market oversight and ensure compliance by establishments with applicable laws and regulations. He noted that all detected violations were documented in official reports, and the violators were referred to the Commercial Prosecution to complete the necessary legal procedures.
