“Love Again”.. A Saudi Story Away from Imitation

From the heart of the capital, Riyadh, filming continues for the series “Love Again,” which aims to deliver a distinctive Saudi dramatic experience, free from imitation or the rehashing of past productions. This underscores the notion that genuine adaptation begins with an idea and culminates in the creation of a work that reflects the identity and culture of society.

The series brings together an elite cast of Gulf drama stars, led by Abdullah Al-Sadhan, Zahra Al-Arfaj, and Abdulilah Al-Senani, alongside a group of other artists. Spanning up to 90 episodes, the project is directed by Jawdat Marjan and is slated for broadcast on MBC and the Shahid platform in October.

The story revolves around two Saudi families whose lives intertwine amid a series of social and human situations. Family relationships become entangled, giving rise to conflicts and misunderstandings, before unfolding events reveal a succession of surprises that blend drama with light comedic elements. The narrative captures the details of daily life and resonates with the pulse of the Saudi family.

Despite sharing a similar title with the Turkish series “Ask Yeniden” (“Love Again”), the Saudi production follows a completely different path. It introduces new characters and an independent plot rooted in the Saudi environment, without replicating any events or storylines from the original work. Its creators emphasize that the goal is to present drama with its own unique identity, rather than repackaging a familiar story in a new guise.

The series also marks a notable return of actor Abdullah Al-Sadhan to long-form dramatic works, alongside the presence of prominent artists with substantial artistic credentials, such as Abdulilah Al-Senani and Zahra Al-Arfaj. This ensemble lends significant artistic weight to the project, particularly given the multiplicity of characters and dramatic arcs that track shifts in family and social relationships.

“Love Again” arrives at a time when Saudi drama is experiencing growing production activity, with an expansion of long-form works beyond the Ramadan season and a reliance on stories drawn from local realities.
