U.S. Central Command: We have resumed the naval blockade on Iran

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that U.S. forces resumed a naval blockade on ships heading to or coming from Iranian ports and coastal areas, effective today at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

In a post on its X (formerly Twitter) account, CENTCOM stated: “Currently, more than 20 U.S. Navy warships and hundreds of military aircraft are deployed in the Middle East region, as U.S. forces continue to maintain their vigilance, readiness, and superior capability to deliver decisive strikes.”

CENTCOM had previously announced the commencement of an additional round of strikes against Iran.

In another post on its X account, CENTCOM said: “At 3:00 p.m. today (Eastern Time), U.S. Central Command forces began launching an additional round of strikes against Iran, in order to continue undermining Iranian capabilities used to attack commercial navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.”

It added: “These strikes come as U.S. forces prepare to resume the naval blockade of Iranian ports and coastal areas, with the blockade taking effect at 4:00 p.m. (Eastern Time).”

Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced new sanctions related to Iran, specifying that these sanctions were imposed on individuals, entities, and vessels linked to Tehran.
