The National Assembly Transfers Manuscripts from "Drawers" to the Book Fair

In a move aimed at giving unpublished literary works a genuine opportunity to emerge, the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters has announced the opening of nominations for the Unpublished Creative Works Award, which is designated for Kuwaiti creators in the fields of poetry, novels, and short story collections. The award seeks to transcend the notion of traditional competition by offering the winning work a chance to transition from a manuscript stored away in drawers to a printed edition, with the Council publishing the first print run. The winner’s name will be announced during the Kuwait International Book Fair, and the author will receive a certificate of appreciation and a commemorative plaque, reflecting moral and creative support for the writer.

The Council has stipulated that submitted works must be written in standard Arabic and must not have been published in any print or electronic format. Additionally, the works must not have previously participated in or won other awards. Applicants are required to complete the necessary documents and forms and submit them via the dedicated email address for the award by August 20.

This initiative aims to discover new literary voices and provide them with the opportunity to reach readers through institutional publishing channels, thereby contributing to enriching Kuwait’s cultural landscape with new works that embody creative visions and experiences deserving to see the light of day.
