The 6th Bahrain International Film Festival kicks off on November 5

Maraf Al-Shammari continues to report that the sixth edition of the Bahrain International Film Festival is finalizing its preparations for the upcoming event, following the closure of the submission window for its various competition categories. In this regard, Ammar Zainal, the Artistic Director of the Bahrain International Film Festival, confirmed that the sixth edition has witnessed significant progress and qualitative transformations in the festival’s competition, elevating it to an international level.

Zainal revealed in a media statement that, after the submission deadline closed at the end of June last year, the festival administration received 894 entries from 55 countries worldwide. He emphasized that the sixth edition marked a qualitative shift, as the competition became international this year.

He clarified that the festival will take place from November 5 to 10 next year, featuring a series of training workshops, seminars, and accompanying programs primarily aimed at supporting and encouraging Bahraini filmmakers. Details of these programs will be announced in the coming period.

Zainal added that the sixth edition is expected to see a notable and distinguished presence of art stars and filmmakers from both within Bahrain and abroad, thereby enhancing the festival’s status as a cinematic and cultural platform that brings together diverse experiences and expertise.

He explained that the international orientation of the new edition stems from a vision aimed at elevating the Bahraini film industry and conveying the Bahraini cinematic voice to the world by creating spaces for interaction and collaboration with diverse cinematic experiences from various countries.

He further noted that the festival is working to build regional and international partnerships that achieve its objectives and contribute to expanding and strengthening its presence, thereby opening broader horizons for Bahraini filmmakers and providing them with greater opportunities for development and dissemination.

In the same context, Zainal pointed out that the Kingdom of Bahrain has consistently succeeded in conveying messages of peace and openness to the world. He affirmed that the Bahrain International Film Festival is part of this cultural and civilizational framework, reflecting Bahrain’s image as a hub for creativity and cultural diversity.

Earlier, the Bahrain International Film Festival administration had outlined the participation conditions for the official competition, which allow all directors and filmmakers, whether amateurs or professionals, to participate with works produced after January 1, 2024, that have not previously been screened theatrically, on television, or via online platforms. Participants may submit more than one film, provided that each does not exceed 30 minutes in duration. The competition comprises five main categories: Bahraini Films, Short Narrative Films, Documentary Films, Animation Films, and Student Films.
