Bahrain: Life imprisonment for three defendants for conspiring with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps; five years for ten defendants for committing acts of violence and sabotage in coordination with the attacks
The head of Bahrain’s Terrorism Crimes Prosecution Department stated that the Criminal Court of Cassation, in its session held yesterday, issued two verdicts in separate cases concerning espionage with a hostile foreign state. Three defendants were accused of colluding with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a terrorist organization, and its operatives, to assist in its hostile and terrorist activities against the Kingdom of Bahrain and to harm its interests. The court sentenced all of them to life imprisonment and ordered the confiscation of seized items.
Details of the first incident stem from information confirmed by investigations conducted by the General Department of Criminal Investigation and Forensics, which established that the first defendant, a security-wanted fugitive outside the country who works for the terrorist IRGC, recruited the second defendant, who is present in the Kingdom of Bahrain, to provide him with information on vital locations within the Kingdom for targeting during the brutal Iranian aggression.
Details of the second incident involve information confirmed by the same investigative department, indicating that the defendant communicated with an electronic account managed by the terrorist IRGC, providing it with video clips of the Iranian terrorist attacks on vital facilities in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Additionally, he sent coordinates and locations of vital sites within the country to be targeted by the enemy, thereby threatening the security and safety of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the lives of its citizens and residents.
The Public Prosecution initiated investigations into both incidents immediately upon receiving the reports. It interrogated the defendants present in the country, heard witness testimonies, and appointed technical experts to examine the seized electronic devices. The investigations concluded that the data and information provided by the defendants to the terrorist IRGC formed a fundamental pillar in the hostile and abominable Iranian terrorist attacks that targeted several vital and important facilities within the Kingdom of Bahrain, thereby endangering the country’s security and stability.
In light of this, the Public Prosecution referred the defendants to the Criminal Court of Cassation. The two cases were heard separately over several sessions, during which all prescribed legal guarantees were observed, including the presence of the defendants’ lawyers and their ability to present their defenses, until the court issued its aforementioned verdict in yesterday’s session.
In parallel, the head of the Terrorism Crimes Prosecution Department stated that the Criminal Court of Cassation issued two verdicts yesterday in separate cases involving ten defendants who committed acts of violence and sabotage during the abominable Iranian attacks on the Kingdom of Bahrain last March. The court sentenced them to prison terms of up to five years and ordered the confiscation of seized items.
Details of these two incidents stem from reports received by the Public Prosecution from the relevant security administration at the Ministry of the Interior, stating that the defendants were arrested red-handed at the scenes of the incidents after participating in acts of violence and sabotage that coincided with the abominable Iranian attacks on the Kingdom of Bahrain, and were subsequently presented to the Public Prosecution.
