Axios: Trump asked Netanyahu to withdraw Israeli forces from Syria and Lebanon

Axios reported that U.S. and Israeli officials said U.S. President Donald Trump asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to withdraw Israeli forces from both Syria and Lebanon. The website clarified that the U.S. president informed the Israeli prime minister last Thursday that Israel must redeploy its forces out of the two countries, while a U.S. official stated that Trump told Netanyahu that the presence of the Israeli military in Syria generates tensions and could lead to escalation. While Axios reported that Netanyahu’s office raised with Trump the need for security zones along Israel’s borders, a source said the Trump administration concluded that Netanyahu is unwilling to make the concessions sought in Syria and Lebanon.
