Kuwait: Iran’s heinous aggression and that of its loyal militias in Iraq constitutes a blatant violation of our sovereignty and a flagrant challenge to international legitimacy

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the State of Kuwait’s strongest condemnation and rejection of the heinous aggression launched by the Islamic Republic of Iran and its affiliated factions and militias in the Republic of Iraq against the State of Kuwait. This aggression involved attacks targeting several border centers and an offshore drilling platform belonging to Kuwait Oil Company, resulting in human casualties and material losses.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that the continued aggression by Iran and its proxies in Iraq constitutes a blatant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, a serious threat to the security and safety of Kuwaiti citizens and residents, and a flagrant challenge to international legitimacy and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026). It also represents an irresponsible undermining of regional and international efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in the region.

The Ministry emphasized Kuwait’s inherent right to take appropriate measures to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and stability, in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also strongly condemned and rejected the continued attacks targeting Kuwait’s General Consulate in Basra, describing them as an unacceptable violation of the inviolability of consular premises and an undermining of the Iraqi government’s efforts to fulfill its international obligations under the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, particularly Article 31, which obligates the host state to take all appropriate steps to ensure the full protection of consular premises and their inviolability.

The Ministry noted that “despite the efforts made by the Iraqi government to counter these attacks, it stresses the necessity for the Iraqi government to take immediate and decisive measures to hold all those involved in these hostile acts accountable, ensure they do not recur, and implement measures to safeguard the inviolability of Kuwait’s diplomatic and consular missions accredited to the Republic of Iraq and guarantee the security and safety of their personnel.”

Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Armed Forces announced that the armed forces had intercepted hostile aerial targets within Kuwaiti airspace. The General Staff, in a press statement, clarified that the sounds of explosions heard were the result of air defense systems intercepting hostile attacks, calling on everyone to adhere to safety and security instructions issued by the competent authorities.

**UAE**

In Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the renewed Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan with missiles and drones. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that these attacks represent a blatant violation of the sovereignty of sister states and a threat to their security and stability.

The Ministry reaffirmed the UAE’s full solidarity with Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, emphasizing its support for all measures aimed at preserving the security and stability of these countries.

The UAE also strongly condemned the attack on Kuwait involving drones, which targeted three land border centers and one offshore drilling platform belonging to Kuwait Oil Company, causing material damage and injuring one worker. The Ministry stated that this attack constitutes a blatant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty and a threat to its security and stability.

According to the statement, the Ministry expressed the UAE’s full solidarity with Kuwait and its support for all measures to preserve its security and stability, while wishing the injured person a speedy recovery.

**Qatar**

In Doha, Qatar condemned the continued attacks targeting the headquarters of Kuwait’s General Consulate in Basra, Republic of Iraq, and the accompanying violations of the inviolability of consular missions.

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that targeting consular premises constitutes a blatant violation of international law and the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, stressing the necessity to respect the inviolability of consular missions and provide them and their members with full protection.

The Ministry reaffirmed Qatar’s full solidarity with Kuwait and emphasized the importance of taking necessary measures to ensure the security and safety of consular missions and prevent the recurrence of such attacks.

Qatar also strongly condemned the repeated Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, considering them a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of sister states and a blatant breach of international law, the UN Charter, and the principles of good neighborliness.

The Qatari Ministry stressed the necessity to spare the region from the consequences of these unjustified attacks and to promote dialogue, diplomacy, and de-escalation, contributing to consolidating security and stability at both the regional and international levels.

The Ministry reaffirmed Qatar’s full solidarity with Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, and its absolute support for all measures taken by these sister states to safeguard their sovereignty, security, and stability.

**Bahrain**

In Manama, the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s strong condemnation and rejection of the continued heinous Iranian attacks targeting the territories of the Kingdom, as well as the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, the Sultanate of Oman, and Jordan.

The Ministry stated in a press release that these attacks constitute a serious escalation threatening the security and stability of the region, a blatant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and a grave breach of international law, the UN Charter, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Charter, UN Security Council Resolution 2817, and the principles of good neighborliness.

The Ministry affirmed Bahrain’s full solidarity with sister states, commending the efficiency of the Bahrain Defense Force, the armed forces, and air defenses of sister states, and their vigilance and high readiness in responding to the brutal Iranian attacks targeting civilian and vital sites using missiles and drones.

The Ministry stressed the right of Bahrain and sister states to take all lawful measures to defend their sovereignty, security, and stability, and to protect citizens and residents on their territories, in accordance with international law, Article 51 of the UN Charter, and the Joint Defense Agreement of the Gulf Cooperation Council states, while committing to the highest levels of restraint and striving to resolve disputes through dialogue and peaceful means.

The Ministry reiterated Bahrain’s call on the international community, particularly the Security Council, to assume its legal responsibilities and take firm and deterrent measures against Iran’s continued heinous and systematic attacks on regional states, and to establish an effective mechanism to ensure implementation, accountability, and compensation in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2817 and UN Human Rights Council Resolution 61/1.

It called for compelling Iran to fully comply with its international obligations, halt its hostile operations, and guarantee freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the safety of vital waterways, contributing to enhancing security, stability, and sustainable development in the region and the world.

**Arab Parliament**

For his part, President of the Arab Parliament Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi strongly condemned the Iranian attacks on Kuwait with missiles and drones, which targeted three land border centers and one offshore drilling platform belonging to Kuwait Oil Company, resulting in material damage and the injury of one worker. He affirmed that these attacks constitute a flagrant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, a grave breach of international law and the UN Charter, and a highly dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region and undermines regional and international efforts to contain tensions and enhance regional security and peace.

Al-Yamahi affirmed the Arab Parliament’s full and steadfast solidarity with Kuwait, and its absolute support for all measures taken to preserve its national security, safeguard its sovereignty, and protect its citizens and residents. He stressed that any infringement on Kuwait’s security, sovereignty, or territorial integrity constitutes a direct threat to the entire Arab national security system, necessitating a firm and deterrent Arab and international stance.

The President of the Arab Parliament called on the international community, foremost among them the Security Council and the United Nations, to assume their political, legal, and moral responsibilities, and to take urgent and decisive measures to halt these attacks, hold those responsible accountable, and ensure respect for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of states, and full compliance with international law and the UN Charter, thereby preventing the escalation from widening and preserving regional and international security and stability.
