A recent scientific study has revealed that exposure to natural light during daylight hours is associated with improved sleep quality at night, highlighting the importance of regulating light exposure to support the body’s circadian rhythm and enhance overall health.
The website Norwich Science Report, citing research conducted by scholars from the University of Manchester in the UK and published in the Journal of Biological Rhythms and Sleep, noted that the study involved 89 adult volunteers. Each participant wore sensors to measure exposure to light influencing the circadian rhythm, along with devices to track sleep, while maintaining health diaries for over 500 days.
The results showed that participants who were exposed to greater amounts of natural light during the day experienced deeper sleep, particularly during the first half of the night. It was also found that sleep disturbances widen the gap between individuals’ subjective assessments of their sleep quality and the actual measurements recorded by the devices.
