Video: Customs thwarts smuggling of over 5,300 cigarette cartons

The General Directorate of Customs, represented by the Nuaibis Border Crossing Customs Department, thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of cigarettes after seizing a vehicle that had been used to conceal the contraband in a professional manner within its structure. The seizure followed suspicions regarding the vehicle, which was subjected to a thorough customs inspection that uncovered 5,305 cartons of cigarettes, weighing nearly one ton, hidden inside the door panels, the vehicle’s floor, and the front and rear facades, as well as in cavities and secret compartments specifically prepared for smuggling. Customs authorities stated that the seized goods were confiscated and the vehicle impounded, as it had been prepared for customs smuggling, with all necessary legal measures taken and the suspect and seized items referred to the competent authorities to complete investigations in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. The agency reaffirmed its continued efforts to strengthen surveillance at all customs crossings and to deploy human and technical resources to combat smuggling attempts in all their forms, thereby contributing to the protection of society and safeguarding the national economy.
