Qatar Mourns Its Late Grand Prince, the Amir al-Walad

Qatar yesterday bid farewell to its great departed leader, His Highness the Amir al-Walid Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, may God have mercy on him, who passed away yesterday morning. The state announced a four-day period of mourning, the lowering of flags, and the suspension of work in official and public institutions.
His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, along with a large crowd of mourners, led the funeral prayer for the late Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani at the Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque in the Qatari capital, where the ceremonies for the passing of the great leader were held.
The Qatari Diwan al-Amiri (Amiri Diwan) stated in an official statement reported by the Qatar News Agency (QNA): “With hearts believing in God’s decree and destiny, the Amiri Diwan mourns the great departed leader of the nation, His Highness the Amir al-Walid Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, may God have mercy on him, who passed away yesterday morning, Sunday, at the age of 74. May God envelop the great departed leader in His boundless mercy and forgiveness, and grant him a spacious place in Paradise among the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous, and what excellent companions they are. May God reward him with the best recompense for the monumental and enduring achievements he contributed to his nation and the Arab and Islamic ummah, and may He grant us all patience and solace.”
The Qatari Amiri Diwan announced a general period of mourning across the country for the great departed leader, lasting four days starting from yesterday. Work in ministries, other government bodies, and public institutions and organizations will be suspended starting Monday, with employees resuming their duties next Sunday. Flags will be lowered throughout the country for the entire duration of the mourning period.
It was also announced that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will receive condolences from world leaders, members of the ruling family, dignitaries, and citizens at Lusail Palace on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, corresponding to July 13, 14, and 15, 2026. The reception periods will be in the morning from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and in the evening from after the Asr prayer until the Isha prayer.
